C15 – Flooring and Floor Covering
Contractors
A flooring and floor covering contractor prepares any surface
for the installation of flooring and floor coverings, and installs carpet,
resilient sheet goods, resilient tile, wood floors and flooring (including the
finishing and repairing thereof), and any other materials established as
flooring and floor covering material, except ceramic tile.
The Flooring and Floor Covering (C-15) Examination is divided
into seven major sections. These sections are:
1. Job Evaluation (8%)
- Evaluate plans and specifications
- Evaluate material characteristics
- Perform job-related calculations
- Evaluate job site readiness
2. Job Preparation (12%)
- Remove existing flooring
- Correct sub-floor for installation
- Prepare sub-floor for installation
- Install underlayments
3. Carpet Installation (20%)
- Evaluate carpeting
- Install tack strips, padding and
trims
- Cut and layout carpet
- Seam, stretch and tuck carpet
4. Resilient Sheet Goods & Tile Installation
(19%)
- Evaluate sheet goods
- Install trims and transitions
- Prepare sheet goods for installation
- Prepare sub-floor for installation
- Roll and seal sheet goods
5. Laminate Flooring Installation (10%)
- Evaluate laminates
- Install laminates
- Install laminate trims
6. Wood Flooring (Solid and Engineered) Installation
(21%)
- Evaluate wood Materials
- Perform moisture tests
- Install wood flooring and trims
- Fill and sand wood
- Finish wood
7. Job Safety (10%)
- Apply personal safety procedures
- Apply job safety procedures
- Operate tools and equipment safely
