C42 – Sanitation System Contractor

A sanitation system contractor fabricates and installs cesspools, septic tanks, storm drains, and other sewage disposal and drain structures. This classification includes the laying of cast-iron, steel, concrete, vitreous and nonvitreous pipe and any other hardware associated with these systems.

The Sanitation System (C-42) Examination is divided into five major sections. These sections are:

1. Site Conditions (10%)

  • Sanitation system location
  • Sanitation system type
  • Soil conditions

2. System Design (13%)

  • Sizing of sanitation system
  • Plans and specifications
  • Sanitation system components

3. Installation (50%)

  • Excavation and trenching
  • Septic systems
  • Sewer systems
  • Storm drains
  • Pumps and monitoring systems
  • Drawings, permits, and inspection

4. Maintenance and Repair (11%)

  • Cleaning techniques
  • Inspection methods
  • Repair, replacement, and rehabilitation procedures

5. Safety (16%)

  • Job site safety
  • Personnel safety
